Man dies after sex with 14-year-old girl in Grant Road hotel, charged with rape
A 41-year-old manager of a Gujarat-based diamond factory passed away in a Mumbai hotel on November 2nd, while allegedly sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl who worked at the same factory.
According to Mumbai Police, the accused manager had been financially supporting the girl’s family, which includes her mother, a paralyzed father, and an unemployed brother. The man allegedly blackmailed the girl, threatening to cut off financial aid, and took her to Mumbai where the assault took place.
The girl’s family had a good relationship with the accused as he frequently visited their home to check on her bedridden father and provided financial assistance. The girl, under pressure from her mother, had started working at the factory.
On October 29th, the man visited the girl’s house and requested to take her to Mumbai with his family. The family, trusting the accused, allowed him to take their daughter. The man allegedly presented a fake Aadhaar card at the hotel, claiming the girl was his daughter.
A senior police officer revealed that the manager had been sexually exploiting the girl at the factory, threatening to withdraw financial support. He would force the girl to return the money if she revealed the abuse to anyone.
On the night of the incident, the accused consumed a sexual enhancement supplement at the hotel room and collapsed during the assault. The girl alerted hotel staff, who then informed the police. The man was rushed to JJ Hospital where he was declared dead.
The girl’s mother arrived in Mumbai on Sunday and filed a police complaint. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
As the accused is no longer alive, police will file an abetted summary report in court.
