Should I file a case against the doctor ?
When I was 2 years old, my mother, my two brothers, and I lived at my grandparents’ house. She was an independent woman and a single mother for us. My mother had been experiencing discomfort in her abdomen for quite some time. So, when we consulted with the family doctor, they told us that my mother had an ulcer, and that’s why treatment was started. But after a few months, when the pain worsened, we went for a checkup elsewhere, and after a sonography, the lady doctor there suggested that we would have to undergo an operation. Basically, the reason for the operation was that there were growths and hernias in the uterus, as we were told. So, we admitted my mother to Phoenix Hospital for the operation. The day she was admitted, her blood level was around 6.5. We admitted her on January 18, but because her blood was low, the operation was postponed. On January 20, her blood level was 7.5, but the doctors still said that the operation had to be done.
So, the operation took place on January 20th at 5 o’clock, and after that, my mother was shifted from the operating theatre to the ICU, where there was only an oxygen mask and no other emergency equipment in their hospital. Within 15-20 minutes of the stitches, bleeding started. So, they took my mother back to the operating theatre to redo the stitches. This took about 2-3 hours, and my mother was still in the operating theatre. They didn’t have proper equipment or a ventilator, but still took the risk. When they realized that the situation was very serious, they thought about shifting her to another hospital. Suddenly, an ambulance arrived outside… until then, we had no idea what was happening inside. None of the hospital staff were interacting with us. Then, they called for another big ambulance, which further delayed things, and around 9-9:15, my mother was shifted to the bigger hospital. But my mother had already passed away around 10 o’clock, yet the staff there didn’t inform us. At around 1:30 in the night, a constable came to do the paperwork, and through him, we found out about my mother’s death. Can you just imagine, in the afternoon, I had lovingly hugged my mother, and at night, I was watching her peacefully sleep in front of my eyes. I can’t even describe what I was going through at that time. I had to face all of this, me and my mother, because of that doctor’s negligence.
And this is a case of medical negligence. Later, we filed a police complaint, but they said it would take a long time to get the postmortem report. But no action has been taken against the doctor. Because of one mistake, my mother lost her life, and there are many cases of medical negligence, but fast action is never taken in any of them. I haven’t spent a single day without my mother, but after her passing, I have thoughts of suicide every day
