#Justice for Shalini Pandey. My sister was raped
Actually, this is my sister’s story. She is no longer in this world, but I believe everyone deserves to know what happened to her. We were on a trip to Delhi (we are from Chhattisgarh). It was May 17, 2023, when we decided to explore Delhi’s nightlife. We went to Connaught Place, and then I received a call saying I accidentally took the room keys, and our parents needed to rest in the room. The hotel was a maximum of 10 minutes away, so I told my sister, ‘Sona, have your meal quickly, I’ll bring the keys back in a flash,’ and I left. That is my biggest regret to this day-why did I leave? Sona was in a restaurant having lunch when she was kidnapped. When I returned to the hotel, the staff said she had left. When I asked around, I found out she had left in a car, and she was missing the entire night. I blamed myself for leaving her alone. People might say she was dressed provocatively, but she was wearing pants and a hoodie. Then the next night, we received a call from my sister. She was at the police station. When we went there, we were completely shocked. She had no clothes on, covered in blood, scratches, and bruises all over her body. So we filed a complaint and returned to our state. My sister stopped talking to everyone and isolated herself. Then suddenly, she didn’t leave her room for two days, which became normal because there were days when she wouldn’t talk to anyone for four days straight. She was undergoing treatment. We thought maybe she would come out to eat, but when we went upstairs, there was complete silence, unlike before. When we broke open the door, she was hanging from the fan, holding a note.
I can’t disclose the entire note, but it’s important to mention that it stated when my sister was kidnapped, she was r@p£d repeatedly all night by more than 10 people and then abandoned alone without cl0th*s on the road. When she asked for a lift from those she encountered, they also subjected her to the same abuse. Then, she came across an auto-rickshaw driver who took her to a secluded place, filmed her, and threatened her not to disclose anything to anyone. He then let her go at the police station. Even the police made advances towards her, but thankfully, there were female officers present, so nothing happened. However, when she reached home, her video had already gone viral. Hence, she chose to end her life. One of our family members has political connections. When we sought help from him, he was like, ‘It’s good that the family’s honor was saved.’ Those high authorities, you know, they have influence because the person behind the kidnapping, I mean, the car belongs to a big businessman. When we had the footage, the police made us delete it and even threatened us not to let it go viral. That’s why the police are quiet and not taking any action. No FIR was filed, no complaint was made, nothing, dude. Then they would start all this again. Now, after a year, they are not bothering us. When all this happened, they even sent us 10 lakhs and said to stay quiet. We showed that money to the police and told them everything. The police said, ‘Keep the money and stay quiet. Everything has been sold, buddy.’ They still have that money kept in the same envelope it came in on the first day.
